Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) beats Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) in a head-to-head matchup by nearly 10 points, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday.
The poll found Johnson trailing Feingold, who has strongly indicated interest in a rematch against the incumbent senator, 50 percent to 41 percent among Wisconsinites in a head-to-head matchup. Johnson defeated Feingold in 2010.
What’s worse for Johnson, a top target for national Democrats in the 2016 cycle, is that the poll found 40 percent of those surveyed disapprove of the job he’s doing while 32 percent approve. Another 28 percent said they were unsure.
The numbers are better for Feingold. Forty-six percent of those surveyed said they have a favorable opinion of the former Wisconsin senator, while 35 percent said they have an unfavorable opinion. A remaining 19 percent said they were not sure.
Feingold, most recently, has left his position at the State Department. His immediate plans are to teach at Stanford and, in what is likely a sign he’s going to run for Senate, also travel around Wisconsin extensively. He said he will do that while he considers “how I can best further serve my country and the state I love,” according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The poll was conducted among 1,071 Wisconsin voters between March 6th and March 8th. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
I hope he runs. I think that 2016 will be a lot different than 2010.
I am sure Scott Walker’s devolution into a combination of Ralph Malph and Potsie haven’t hurt Feingold either.
