A new poll finds Sen. Kay Hagan’s (D-NC) lead over North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) barely outside the margin of error.

The Elon University poll finds 44.7 percent of likely voters surveyed saying they will support Hagan while 40.7 percent said they would support Tillis.

Most recent polls have shown Hagan with a small lead over Tillis. On Wednesday The Washington Examiner reported that a top Tillis strategist, on a call with donors, said that their campaign’s internal polls have generally shown Tillis two or three points behind Hagan.

The Elon University poll was conducted between Oct. 21 and Oct. 25 among 996 registered voters and 687 likely voters. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.74 points for likely voters.

The TPM Polltracker average finds Hagan with a 0.4 point lead over Tillis.
