Donald Trump maintains a modest lead over Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the Ohio Republican presidential primary, according to a CNN poll released on Wednesday morning.
Among likely Republican voters, 41 percent supported Trump while 35 percent supported Kasich. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) polled at 15 percent and Sen. Marco Rubio polled at 7 percent.
Trump appears to be holding his lead, even as Kasich has closed the gap in recent polls. A recent Public Policy Polling poll showed Trump leading Kasich by just 3 points.
TPM’s PollTracker average shows Trump leading the Ohio race with 35.7 percent, followed by Kasich with 32.5 percent.
CNN/ORC surveyed 359 likely Republican voters March 2-6 with a margin of error plus or minus 5 percentage points.
I’m kind of blown away. I’m no fan of Republicans and their platform but at least I want them to be sane. Kasich can’t even catch a break in his own state against this guy? Wow.
I still can’t believe that a speech by Michigan’s favorite son, Mitt Romney, didn’t doom Trump in that state.
Kasich’s problem is that he doesn’t really stand for any independent thoughts that are different from Republican candidates. Now that would have been a clear disqualification in most presidential cycles, but with Trump standing (and saying) what the base wants to hear, Kasich has no real chance in regards to message.
Rubio: It’s impressive that I am coming in 4th in OH which is really far from FL and nobody really knows me in OH.
You’d think being the lone adult in the room (and this was true when there were still a gazillion other candidates on the stage) would have been enough to separate him from the pack. Not joking.
