The contentious Iowa race for U.S. Senate between Rep. Bruce Braley (D) and state Sen. Joni Ernst (R) seems to be tightening, according to a new Monmouth University poll.

The new poll found Ernst leading Braley (pictured) 47 percent to 46 percent among likely voters. The margin of error was 4.8 percentage points. That poll came after a previous Public Policy Polling survey which found Braley actually leading Ernst 48 percent to 47 percent.

Most other recent polls have shown Ernst with a lead of a few points over Braley. And a poll from the Republican leaning Magellan Strategies found Ernst leading just short of double digits over Braley.

The Monmouth poll was conducted between Oct. 18 and Oct. 21 among 423 likely voters.

The TPM Polltracker average now finds Ernst with a small 0.7 point lead over Braley.
