Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson tied with Donald Trump to lead the Republican field among likely Iowa Republican caucus goers in a new poll released by Monmouth University on Monday.

Carson and Trump each received 23 percent of likely caucusgoers’ support, according to the Monmouth University poll. Although the two candidates tied, Carson received an 81 percent approval rating from like Republican caucusgoers, while Trump earned a 52 percent favorable rating.

Behind Carson and Trump, 10 percent of likely caucusgoers said they support Carly Fiorina, 9 percent said they support Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and 7 percent said they support Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R).

Before Monmouth University released its poll on Monday, Trump had secured a commanding lead in the Republican primary across the country.

Monmouth University surveyed 405 Iowa voters likely to attend the Republican caucus via phone from Aug. 27 to 30 with a margin of error plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
