NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A man who graduated from Yale University last week stabbed a fellow student at an off-campus apartment building Tuesday morning before jumping out of a ninth-floor window to his death, police said.
Authorities said the altercation happened at about 5:30 a.m. at the Taft Apartments across the street from the Ivy League campus.
Tyler Carlisle, who majored in philosophy and worked on Republican political campaigns, fell six stories onto a third-floor ledge of the building after stabbing 21-year-old Alexander Michaud, New Haven police said. Authorities haven’t released details on what happened before the stabbing.
Michaud was listed in stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Both Carlisle and Michaud, who is due to graduate in 2017, were from Manchester, New Hampshire, according to their Facebook pages. Both men also were active in The Party of the Right, a conservative group that bills itself as the “right-most” of the seven parties in the Yale Political Union debate and political organization.
Police said the two were acquaintances but did not elaborate.
Carlisle was the manager of Republican Joseph Bentivegna’s failed campaign for Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District last year. He also worked for Rick Santorum’s GOP campaign for president in 2012.
Michaud is listed as the publisher of The Yale Free Press conservative publication.
Yale issued a statement calling Tuesday’s events a tragedy.
“The university extends its deepest sympathy to the families and friends of these two members of the Yale community, and joins everyone in hoping for Alexander’s full recovery,” the statement said, adding that mental health counselors were being made available to anyone who needs them.

Had I worked on Republican campaigns, I’d jump out of a window, too.
I’ll wait for more info…
beyond the previous association with Santorum.
“You borrowed my sweater vest, bitch!”
If it had been a gun, there would likely be two dead yalies.
A conservative trying to kill another conservative, and killing himself, instead. I can’t post what I’m thinking or I’ll probably lose my posting priviledges here.
