AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Emergency responders say one person is dead and three others have been taken to a hospital with “potentially serious injuries” after a stabbing attack on the University of Texas campus.

Austin police say one person is in custody Monday afternoon.

Travis County Emergency Medical Services has tweeted that one person is dead at the scene near the campus’ Gregory gym and three others have been transported. The agency notes there also are reports of additional patients with non-life-threatening injuries.

The University of Texas is blocks from downtown Austin and the Texas capitol building and is one of the nation’s largest universities.

There was just a story about an active shooter in Dallas with an EMT injured - now this?

As a parent of a college student, this is one of the worst things imaginable.

  2. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

  3. Texas just got campus carry … looks like it might not achieve what the Gunzers in the Texas Legislature said it would. Now we need GOOD GUYS WITH KNIVES!

  4. I can see it already – “See, even if you gun grabbers take all of our guns, gun deaths will just be replaced by knife murders. You guys are idiots!”

I’ve tried pointing out that if knives are just as lethal as guns, they shouldn’t mind if I give them a knife to replace each gun I grab. But no, they don’t see the point I’m making. “But I need guns to keep my family safe!”

  5. What a real shame, in the capital of the most gun revering state, someone finds himself going into murdering rampage with a lousy knife. Lots of people must be nostalgic of the 60s when rampages in UT were carried with real modern guns, and killed tons of people, just like god intended .
