A Colorado woman was arrested on suspicion of arson Wednesday night for organizing a Confederate flag burning, according to the The Colorado Springs Gazette newspaper.
Patricia Cameron, who runs a news blog, was arrested and released Wednesday night, the newspaper reported. She reportedly organized the Confederate flag burning on July 4, from which photographs and videos surfaced on social media.
“An accelerant was poured onto the flag, which was held over a small grill, lit with a lighter, at which point flames erupted,” police wrote in a news release, according to the newspaper. “The situation posed a risk of danger to the property and citizens of Manitou Springs, as there were multiple people in the area.”

Shouldn’t that be “suspicion of RISK of DANGER of arson”? Actually, since the usual definition of arson is “willful or malicious burning of a dwelling” it has no application here at all.
Good Lord. What this article doesn’t say is if anything else caught fire besides the flag. I see no evidence of that from what I read. The only thing this article says is that the arrest comes because someone thinks that was her intent. I seriously doubt that, and since nothing else was destroyed beside the flag, no one and nothing else was harmed in the process. So where’s the damage, other than to some jackasses bullshit Souther pride?
Just curious…I wonder if they allow grills with lighter fluid as a starter under that roof?
With that said, she probably should have dug a pit outside the structure since the roof seems kind of low. And a bucket of water would be advisable. Just ask Smokey the Bear.

According to the article, no - only gas grills. I think these folks simply messed up by where they burned the flag. Sounds to me like had they simply done this outside somewhere (and not the pavilion), everything would have been fine.
Thanks. I must’ve missed that.
