A San Tan Valley, Ariz. woman, Melisah Havens, on Friday accidentally shot her husband outside their residence because she thought he was an intruder trying to burglarize her vehicle, police told KTVK Phoenix.

The man was shot twice, in his chest and hand, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

“Melisah told detectives she shot her husband because she thought he was going to burglarize her vehicle,” Sheriff Paul Babeu told KTVK. “She also said that he had taken her keys and was going to get milk. Melisah declined to provide any additional information after making these statements.”

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in critical but stable condition, according to KTVK.

There were three children, ages 12, 10 and 2, inside the home at the time of the shooting, police told KTVK.

Babeu told KTVK that he has responded to domestic violence calls at the residence before.

Havens was arrested and charged with domestic violence/aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to KTVK.
