After Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) said repeatedly Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will destroy America, CNN host Wolf Blitzer asked the Republican lawmaker to back up his assertion.
“Wolf, I wanna get the American people the relief that they need from this out-of-control spending and I’ll do everything that I possibly can to do that,” Broun said at one point during the interview. “And Obamacare is going to destroy everything that we know as a nation. So we’ve got to focus on doing something to work for the American people.”
The remark was a near carbon copy of what Broun told the National Review on Monday.
“You still stand by those pretty extreme words?” Blitzer asked.
“Well, I’ve already told you today Obamacare is already destroying job creation,” Broun said. “It’s already hurting our economy. We’ve just got to put Obamacare on hold.”
But Blitzer wouldn’t let go of Broun’s claim, ultimately giving the congressman a chance to “revise and amend” his words.
“Well, it’s gonna take us off the edge economically. It’s gonna destroy our economy,” Broun said. “And it’s going to push us into a total economic collapse of America. And that’s exactly what I mean by, ‘It’s gonna destroy America.'”
