Investigators believe a man in Southern California committed suicide moments after he accidentally shot a friend who was attempting to disarm him on Sunday morning, according to television station KNBC.
The shootings occurred in Willowbrook, Calif. and were not believed to have been the result of an argument, Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the station.
“It sounds like it could have been an accidental discharge,” Hernandez said of the first shooting. “The shooting of the individual himself could have been deliberate.”
According to KNBC, witnesses told police that the two men were “hanging out” with other people in the front of a house before the incident occurred.
After the first man pulled out a gun, a man who lived at the house tried to disarm him, but during the struggle was shot in the upper torso, a sheriff’s official told KNBC. Approximately 30 seconds later, the man who pulled the gun reportedly shot himself.
The man with the gun died at the house, while the second man died at a hospital, sheriff’s officials told the station. No other injuries were sustained during the shootings.
Of course this is tragic, my condolences. But it demonstrates once again how dangerous our gun culture is.
Does this make the shooter both a bad guy with a gun and a good guy with a gun?
The gun carnage continues unabated.
It’s mourning time in America.
Because as everyone knows, guns make the man.
Nothing like a gun to turn a moment’s foolish impulse into multiple fatalities.
