White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he expected the House would vote on the American Health Care Act Thursday night.
Reuters’ Jeff Mason asked Spicer at his daily press briefing if he expected there would be a vote on the bill “tonight.”
“That’s what I understand is the House’s schedule, yes,” he responded.
“Any chance that that’s going to be pushed back?” Mason asked.
“That would be obviously up to Speaker Ryan and Leader McCarthy, but nothing leads me to believe that’s the case,” Spicer said.
House Republican leadership is trying to wrangle sufficient conservative votes in order to pass the bill — including with a promise that the Senate will remove Obamacare’s Essential Health Benefits from their version of the bill.
Some moderate Republicans, meanwhile, remain skeptical as well.
Also midday Thursday, the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus said “no deal” had been reached on the future of the bill, after a meeting with President Donald Trump.
