White House Press Secretary Jay Carney defended the timing of a new trade complaint against China during President Obama’s bus tour in Ohio Thursday, an important issue in the manufacturing-heavy state.
“This is an action that has been in development for quite a long time,” Carney said, per pool report. “It can’t suddenly be a political action because happens during the campaign.”
“I think it underscores the president’s commitment to American companies and American workers,” he added, during a gaggle on Air Force One.
