The White House is actively considering former Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) to replace former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, according to a Thursday New York Times report.

Webb ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and has served as secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan. His views on aggression toward China and pulling American troops from the Middle East align with President Donald Trump’s.

  1. Don’t care much for Jim Webb but he would be more qualified then most Dump picks…

  2. Ivanka declined?

  3. I don’t know much about Jim Webb other than he’s reponsible for the post 9/11 GI Bill which was and is an amazing piece of legislation for veterans.

  4. I wonder: Is Webb feeling particularly suicidal lately?

If he has any sense he will let Toadglans twist in the wind, so desperate is he to appoint anyone who has a remote chance of being confirmed.

  5. But does Jim Webb mull assuming the position?
