WH: Obama’s ‘Red Line’ Comment Was Deliberate

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday that President Obama’s use of the term “red line” toward Syria last August was deliberate, contradicting a New York Times report that Obama surprised some advisers by going further than they thought he would go in making commitments to intervene in the conflict.

Carney said Obama’s message, that the use of chemical weapons would cross a red line, was the same in private and in public.
