Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis (D) formally jumped into the Texas gubernatorial race Thursday afternoon.

Davis made the announcement at a campaign event in Haltom City, Texas.

“I am proud to announce my candidacy to be the 48th governor of this great state,” Davis said.

Davis’s announcement was effectively a formality after news broke roughly a week earlier that she planned to jump into the race. Davis faces Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R).
