The brother of Walter Scott, the unarmed black man allegedly shot and killed on Saturday by a white South Carolina police officer, spoke about his brother’s death at a Tuesday press conference about the incident.
“I don’t think that all police officers are bad cops, but there are some bad ones out there. And I don’t want to see anyone get shot down the way my brother got shot down,” Anthony Scott said, according to video posted by Mediaite. “Justice will be served.”
North Charleston, S.C., Patrolman Michael Thomas Slager was arrested and charged with murder on Tuesday for the shooting death of Walter Scott. According to police, Slager allegedly shot Scott after he was already hit with a stun gun.
A video published online on Tuesday appears to show Slager shooting Scott in the back. Slager alleged that he felt threatened by Scott and that he had tried to take his stun gun.
Anthony Scott said that his brother “never” would have tried to take an officer’s stun gun, according to Reuters.
“If you’re caught, you’re caught,” Scott said.
In the video, it appears the officer throws the stun gun down by the body of the victim. This is
learned behavior. While not every cop would have done what this cop did, they all would have known how to rig a crime scene to suggest a justification for their actions, and that’s a symptom of the disease in the American system of “criminal justice”. And it won’t stop until the courts, the media, and especially, a large swath of the population (i.e, non-poor whites) stop giving the cops a pass on pretty much everything.
A video published online on Tuesday appears to show Slager shooting Scott in the back. Slager alleged that he felt threatened by Scott and that he had tried to take his stun gun.
In the spirit of your headline, shouldn’t the second sentence read: “Slager alleged that he allegedly felt threatened by Scott and that he allegedly had tried to take his alleged stun gun.”?
This is becoming to common an occurence today in the Black community and virtually unheard of in the White community.
