The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday they were retaining former Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court Eric Magnuson and former U.S. Department of Justice Trial Attorney Chris Madel to lead an “independent review” into allegations made by former punter Chris Kluwe that his public support for same-sex marriage played a role in his release from the team.

Magnuson and Madel are employed as parters at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, L.L.P.

“It is extremely important for the Vikings organization to react immediately and comprehensively with an independent review of these allegations,” Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf said in a statement released Friday.

Kicker Blair Walsh backed one of the team’s coaches against the allegations on Thursday.
