Three members of Congress were on the plane that brought home former prisoner and American contractor Alan Gross from Cuba: Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

“Today, it brings me great joy to join with Judy Gross [Alan’s wife] and Senators Leahy and Flake to bring my friend Alan Gross home from Cuba after his five years in prison,” Van Hollen said Wednesday. “This day would not have been possible without the tireless advocacy of Alan’s wife, Judy, who never gave up.”

He thanked President Barack Obama and his team, and recognized Rep. Jim McGovern’s (D-MA) “important role in gaining Alan’s release, and for his persistence in working to open a new chapter in the U.S. – Cuban relationship.”
