Utah officials on Monday asked a federal appeals court to keep counties from issuing same-sex marriage licenses while the state appeals the district court’s decision to strike down the ban on gay marriage.

Earlier Monday the district court denied the state’s request for a stay, and county clerks continued to issue licenses to same-sex couples.
