Donald Trump will nominate former Republican Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue to be agriculture secretary, according to reports in Politico and the Associated Press.
The Trump team is expected to announce the choice on Thursday, per Politico.
Perdue’s nomination to lead the Department of Agriculture solidifies that the cabinet will not include a Latino for the first time since 1988, as the Washington Post noted.
Perdue served as the governor of Georgia between 2003 and 2011, and grew up on a farm in the state. He also owns businesses related to agriculture. Perdue is also known for holding a prayer service in the Georgia state capitol in 2007 in an attempt to end a long drought.
