Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former top aide, said Sunday that the anger over the businessman’s tweet calling Hillary Clinton corrupt by the Star of David, was “political correctness run amok.”

Trump received significant backlash online after tweeting the image. He later deleted the tweet.

Lewandowski was fired from the Trump campaign and hired on at CNN as a commentator. On Sunday, he blamed “the media” for the outrage over the tweet. He further argued that it was the “same star” used by sheriffs across the country.

“The bottom line is this is political correctness run amok. If this were to be a star next to Hillary Clinton without the cash behind it, no one would be questioning this,” Lewandowski said.
