Roll out the red carpet, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is planning to head to Washington to win over Capitol Hill.
Politico reported Thursday that Trump plans to try and shore up support from congressional members as soon as next week. Trump has already earned endorsements from Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) as well as a handful of House members, but he has a long ways to go to become a consensus nominee.
As Politico points out, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) have said all along they planned to support the GOP’s presidential candidate, but Trump may actually sit down with the leaders in his next visit, the news outlet reported.
Politico said that Sessions is helping to orchestrate the visit. Trump has gone to the Hill once before for outreach, and his campaign team has been meeting with members for weeks off the Hill. Yet, this marks the first trip since Trump became the presumptive nominee.
