President Donald Trump would not say whether he has confidence in Chief White House Strategist Steve Bannon, who was recently removed from his spot on the National Security Council’s Principals Committee.
The New York Post’s Michael Goodwin asked Trump in an interview published Tuesday night whether he has confidence in Bannon. In response, Trump did not say whether he has confidence in Bannon, and instead downplayed Bannon’s role in his campaign and emphasized that that he is his “own strategist.”
“I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,” Trump replied. “I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn’t know Steve. I’m my own strategist and it wasn’t like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary.”
“Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will,” Trump added.
Bannon and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have reportedly been at odds lately. The infighting between Bannon and other members of the administration has reportedly led Bannon to consider resigning. And Trump reportedly sat Bannon and Kushner down, along with other staffers, and told them to work through their issues.
I see you took an extra hour or two to color your hair … again.
“I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,” Trump said. And then the president appeared to threaten the job of his chief strategist."
I like so-and-so, but…
Congratulations, Mr. Trump! You are the one millionth boss I’ve heard say those words. And I’ve always suspected they were said at Goldman, too. Looks like they’re Treading On BumbleBannon, aka the Fourth Turdling.
What a mess.
Well Steve had best pull out the resume, update it and get a monster.com account.
