Donald Trump’s campaign cancelled an event in Chicago Friday evening over safety concerns after protesters filed into the venue, the Associated Press reported.
In a statement, the campaign asked the “tens of thousands” of attendees at the University of Illinois at Chicago campus event to “go in peace” after the postponement was announced.
NBC News reporters on the scene reported live that the raucous crowd grew agitated waiting for Trump to appear and that there was shoving and punches thrown after the announcement.
