In a resounding home state victory, Donald Trump won the New York primary on Tuesday night, according to projections from CNN and The Associated Press.

This victory comes as no surprise as Trump was way ahead in polls prior to the contest.

Besides New York being Trump’s home state, Cruz’s controversial “New York values” comments, which contributed to a frosty reception during campaign events this month in New York City, likely put the Texas senator in hot water with voters in the Empire State.

Despite Trump’s strong lead going into to Tuesday’s primary, each candidate made New York a big focus of his campaign. Cruz held events both in the city—visiting a matzah bakery and planning to visit a Bronx school, before that was canceled due to planned student protests—and upstate. Kasich notably enjoyed the Italian fare at a Bronx deli, and his Syracuse rally had to be changed twice to accommodate larger crowds. Each candidates’ extended efforts reflected that this presidential primary day was the most important in recent years for New York.

  1. What a picture.

My only comfort is knowing that Trump´s extravagant attempts at avoiding aging will ultimately be for naught.

  2. The surprise so far is that Hillary is nearly as far ahead of her competition as Herr Trump. I guess trusting the banks to break themselves up didn’t poll well in New York.

  4. Sure didn’t in NY county — 32 points up … Bronx … 39 points …

  5. I am not hardly surprised by this victory.

I mean, for whom else was any self-respecting registered GOP voter going to cast a vote… the governor of Ohio, a candidate of openly and publicly disparaged New York City values, or a guy who has an awful, lot invested in the city?

    Trump was the obvious winner.
