Donald Trump and Mike Pence will meet with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Thursday, Politico and Bloomberg News reported.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Ryan indicated that he and Trump were off to a good start after the election despite the speaker’s decision not to campaign with Trump following the release of a 2005 tape with Trump’s vulgar comments and Trump’s hesitance to support Ryan in his primary.

When asked about his relationship with Trump, Ryan said, “I think our relationship is fine.” He told reporters that he has already spoken to Trump about working together.

“We are already talking about getting our transitions working together,” he said.

  3. Here’s where it will get interesting. The Republicans have now vanquished all of their mythical enemies. The Clintons and the Obamas are gone. All of the evil boogeymen aren’t around. Now they have only themselves to deal with. So now they’re going to be forced to do something on their own terms as opposed to reacting against some mythical “other.”

These first meetings will be indicative of how it’s going to go. Can they actually govern on their own, without having to rail against a democratic figurehead? Or will it be like the 1810s and 1820s, with a kind of one-party rule bringing out the worst of the remaining party.

I suspect that the Republicans are going to have a very difficult time on their own like this. They have a lot of internal demons that they’ve been able to ignore when the focus could be on Obama, or Bill, or Hillary. Now those demons will be front and center.

  4. EXACTLY what I was thinking…
