Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were asked about their support of the Iraq War, during NBC’s Commander-In-Chief forum. Only Clinton owned up to being in favor of it at the time, while Trump continued to deny that he was supportive of the war, despite saying in interviews at the time he was in favor of it.

“I was totally against the war in Iraq. You can look at Esquire magazine from 2004. You can look at before that,” Trump said, responding to Clinton’s attack earlier in the forum that he was denying his support. The two rivals did not appear on stage at the same time.

Buzzfeed has unearthed a number of interviews from before and during the Iraq War in which Trump cheered on the invasion.

“He refuses to take responsibility for his support. That is a judgment issue,” Clinton said at the NBC News forum.

She said that she believed the “decision to go to war in Iraq was a mistake,” as was “my voting to give President Bush that authority.”

“So we must learn what led us down that path so that it never happens again,” Clinton said. “I think I’m in the best possible position to be able to understand that and prevent it.”
