During a Sunday rally in Indiana, Donald Trump railed against the United States’ trade deficit with China, charging that China has committed “rape” against the U.S.
“We can’t continue to allow China to rape our country, and that’s what they’re doing,” Trump said in Fort Wayne, Indiana. “It’s the greatest theft in the history of the world.”
Trump told the audience that the U.S. is “like the piggybank that’s being robbed” by China, according to Politico.
The Republican presidential candidate then made it clear that he doesn’t hate China but that he disapproves of the U.S. trade policy with the country.
“I mean, China’s great. No problem. I’m not angry with China,” he continued. “And I’m not angry at Japan. And I’m not angry at Mexico. I’m not angry at anybody,” Trump said, according to Politico. “I’m angry at our leaders, because they are grossly incompetent and they shouldn’t have ever been elected to do this job. Terrible.”
Trump’s comments come on the heels of criticism from his opponents over remarks touting his endorsement from Mike Tyson, who was convicted of rape in Indiana.
