While defending Republicans’ letter to Iran on Sunday, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) seemed confused about Iran’s geography, ThinkProgress noted.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer asked the freshman senator what might happen if the U.S. and its allies do not reach a nuclear agreement with Iran.

Cotton said that the U.S. needs to push for a better deal with Iran and “call their bluff.” The senator said he supported additional sanctions on Iran as well.

He also expressed concern that Iran controls its capital, Tehran.

“Moreover we have to stand up to Iran’s attempts to drive for regional dominance. They already control Tehran, increasingly they control Damascus and Beirut and Baghdad and now Sana’a as well,” he said. “They do all that without a nuclear weapon. Imagine what they would do with a nuclear weapon.”
