Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) railed against President Barack Obama’s efforts to transfer prisoners out of the Guantanamo Bay detention center Thursday, saying that the U.S. should hold more people at the facility, The Huffington Post reported.

Cotton was speaking during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“In my opinion, the only problem with Guantanamo Bay is there are too many empty beds and cells there right now,” Cotton said. “We should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe.”

Cotton, an Iraq War veteran, accused the White House of neglecting security concerns in favor of political ones.
