Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) took a stab at a Donald Trump impersonation during his speech Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention.
Kaine continually invoked “believe me,” a popular line from Trump’s stump speeches, during his speech. While he didn’t exactly nail the impression, he did draw some laughs from the crowd.
“Trump is a guy who promises a lot, but you might have noticed he’s got a way of saying the same two words every time he makes his biggest, hugest promises,” Kaine mocked. “‘Believe me.’ It’s going to be great, ‘believe me.’ We’re going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it, ‘believe me.’ We’re going to destroy ISIS so fast, ‘believe me.’ There’s nothing suspicious in my tax returns, ‘believe me.’
Watch the clip below:
Twitter is full of Trumpologists saying “He doesn’t say that. Do your homework.” They get replies linking to YouTube and newspaper articles. How long before Trump claims that he doesn’t say it?
I didn’t know much about Tim Kaine before tonight’s appearance, but now I loves me some the Senator.
He had the great comic humiliation lines of the evening until Barack beat him at the end with his remark that his Scotch-Irish Kansas ancestors weren’t sure of their birth certificates.
Mike Bloomberg did well with his “I’m a New Yorker and I know a con man when I hear one” as his take on Trump.
Kaine is a wonderful asset.
Favorite drinking game:
Every time Trump says “disaster” or “believe me” during a speech or interview.
Looks like a fun game, but we’ll need to be careful with it; we don’t want all the Dems being drunk 24/7 for the next three months. We still have a lot of work to do to keep Drumpster away from the executive mansion.
I don’t know if it was meant to be a true impression rather than just condescending and comic, but either way I thought it was fantastic.
