GOP Rep.: ‘Outrageous’ For Obama To Joke About Race Amid NC Unrest

A Republican congressman tweeted his outrage Thursday that President Barack Obama made a joke involving race given that, he says, there were “hoodlums rioting” the past few nights in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) quoted-tweeted a C-SPAN video in which Obama made a joke about actor Morgan Freeman.

“We also honor Wynton Marsalis, who unfortunately, could not make it here today, and Morgan Freeman, who undoubtedly is off playing a black President again,” the President quipped while awarding the National Medals of Arts and Humanities. “He never lets me have my moment.”

Huelskamp apparently found that comment “outrageous” in the wake of violent protests in reaction to the fatal shooting of a black man by Charlotte police.

“Obama jokes about race after two consecutive nights of hoodlums rioting in #Charlotte,” he tweeted. “Outrageous.”

Huelskamp, who recently lost his primary bid and will be leaving office next year, had been tweeting about the unrest before he brought Obama into it:
