Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Sunday said that he has “had no conversation” with Mexico’s foreign minister about President Donald Trump’s insistence that Mexico will pay for his proposed border wall.

“Did you make it clear that the United States expects Mexico to pay for the border wall President Trump has proposed?” George Stephanopoulos asked Tillerson on ABC’s “This Week.”

“We had no conversation about that issue,” Tillerson replied, referring to his meeting last week with Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray.

“That’s surprising to me, no discussion of paying for the border wall, since President Trump spoke about it so often during the campaign,” Stephanopoulos pressed. “Is it the policy of the United States that Mexico must pay for that wall?”

“It’s just not part of our discussions between the foreign minister and myself,” Tillerson said.

Bids for prototypes of Trump’s proposed wall were due on Tuesday to the Department of Homeland Security.

  2. Well Rex, I gather that the interaction the Mexican government and people have in mind would not fall under the category of conversation. Tirade, berating, short right hand…

Seriously, shouldn’t he be asking Jared that question? That is in his portfolio, no?

Did you talk about anything with him, Rex? Other than Gulf of Mexico oil production, that is?

  5. Will Rexxon Tillerson be the first cabinet member to resign?
He strikes me as someone with the ability to recognize his own limitations. That’s why he runs away from reporters, unlike DeVos, Price, Perry, Sessions, et al.
