Tennessee state Rep. Jerry Sexton (R) on Tuesday introduced legislation that would designate the Bible as the “official state book.”

The Tennessee Constitution states that “no preference shall ever be given, by law, to any religious establishment or mode of worship.”

A Mississippi lawmaker last month introduced legislation that would make the Bible the state book.

And after a Louisiana lawmaker introduced a similar measure last year, he quickly pulled the measure because he thought it had become a distraction.
