A young soccer player was killed Friday night in a Raleigh, N.C. hotel after a man in another room accidentally fired a gun, local TV station WGHP reported.

Raleigh police charged Randall Louis Vater, 42, with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Nathan Andrew Clark, 13. Clark was in Raleigh to play in a soccer tournament, witnesses told WGHP.

Police said Vater and Clark were in separate rooms at a Comfort Suites hotel when the suspect accidentally discharged his firearm. A round went through a wall and hit Clark, who authorities said was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vater, who had prior convictions including assault and breaking and entering, was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
