Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on Monday mocked his party’s first major presidential contender, Sen. Ted Cruz (TX), as “a carnival barker.”
“Shutting down the federal government and reading Dr. Seuss on the Senate floor are the marks of a carnival barker, not the leader of the free world,” King said in a Facebook post.
King said the Republican Party could do better than Cruz, who announced his candidacy Monday.

…Said the clown-car driver.
Rarely do I agree with Pete King, but while I do here, I still believe that he understates the case.
Also, it is worth noting that the Liberty University students attending Cruz’s carnival side show were required to attend.
I always want to slap the hell out of these establishment types who’ve made their career off saying incendiary, hateful, awful comments about Democrats, Liberals, and the president, and then turn around and act all surprised when their fellow lawmakers react accordingly. It frustrates them to no end that TP types like Cruz won’t stick to the GOP playbook of saying one thing and doing another. That’s their real problem with Ted Cruz.
This is shaping up nicely, right on cue.
Wait a minute! Rep. King didn’t say that Sen. Cruz was a better carnival barker than a president. He just said that Cruz’s actions were that of a carnival barker. Cruz might be as crappy a carnival barker as he would be a president.
