The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which represents 25 tea party groups that say their applications for non-profit status were treated unfairly by the Internal Revenue Service, on Wednesday filed a  lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C. against the IRS, the U.S. Attorney General, and the Treasury Secretary.

“The IRS and the federal government are not going to get away with this unlawful targeting of conservative groups,” Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the ACLJ, said in a written statement.

The lawsuit argues that the government’s treatment of the applications violated the First and Fifth Amendments of the Constitution, the Administrative Procedure Act, and the IRS’s rules and regulations.
