The protesters expected to assemble for the Republican convention in Tampa this month will likely face temperatures in the 90s, and that’s before the humidity is factored in. The Tampa Bay Times reports the city has taken action to help protesters — and police — gathered outside the convention beat the heat, including providing bottled water, misting stations and portable toilets.
Providing the relief is expected to cost the city $115,000. The city does not expect its $50 million federal grant for convention security to cover these costs, so it will use some form of general city revenue.
