Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin released her first ad in her run for Wisconsin’s open Senate seat Thursday in which she touts her work to reign in “cheating” China and level the playing field for Wisconsin workers. The ad taps into Democratic messaging in the presidential race in which President Obama persistently mentions the necessity of fair rules to help the middle class.
“In Wisconsin, we lead the entire nation in paper industry jobs,” Baldwin says in the ad. “But China, they lead the world in cheating. And it’s costing us jobs in Wisconsin. So I brought Democrats and Republicans together to put sanctions on China now and punish them for making billions breaking trade rules.” Baldwin concludes with a shout-out to fairness: “When the rules are fair, Wisconsin workers come out ahead.”
Now that the recall election is no longer dominating state politics, Baldwin has some ground to make up. A Marquette Law School poll out Wednesday had her trailing the leading Republican candidate, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, 49 percent to 41 percent among likely voters.
The ad is airing statewide.
