Sybrina Fulton, the mother of slain black teenager Trayvon Martin, endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in an op-ed published Monday on CNN.

Fulton wrote that she believed Clinton has what it takes to fight for gun control and “stand up to inaction from Republicans and indifference from the National Rifle Association.” She also praised Clinton’s ideas for reforms, such as eliminating racial profiling and investing in body cameras for police.

Fulton added that she thought Clinton would uphold President Barack Obama’s executive actions on guns and then “go even further.”

“I agree with the President: We should only support leaders that fight for common-sense gun reforms,” she wrote. “Clinton passes that test.”

Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, in 2012; he was unarmed at the time. Zimmerman was ultimately acquitted in Martin’s murder.

Fulton argued other shooting victims in the United States and their families should work together to bring about change.

“Not only am I missing my son, but too many other moms like me are missing their sons — Eric Garner, Jordan Davis, Laquan McDonald, Freddie Gray, Michael Brown, Oscar Grant, Sean Bell, Tamir Rice,” she wrote.

“As their mothers, we must do more than just cry,” she added. “And all of us must do more than speak out, protest and march.”
