Suu Kyi Leaves Myanmar On Europe Trip

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi travelled to Europe tooday for the first time since 1988. She is slated to speak at the annual meeting of the International Labor Organization in Geneva on Thursday. She will then travel to Oslo on June 16 to collect her Nobel Peace Prize which she was awarded in 1991 while under house arrest in Myanmar. Earlier this month on her first foreign trip in 24 years, Suu Kyi sounded a note of caution to business leaders in Bangkok, urging against “reckless optimism” over the rapid reforms taking place in Myanmar.
