NBC News and The Los Angeles Times have each identified Syed Farouk of Corona, California as linked to the afternoon massacre in San Bernardino, California which took the lives of at least 14 people and left numerous victims wounded.
NBC refers to Farouk as “identified as possibly being connected to the deadly gunfire at the Inland Regional Center [according to] multiple sources from several different agencies.” In a breaking news alert, The Los Angeles Times refers to him simply as a “suspect.”
Some four hours after the initial massacre police surrounded two suspects after a car chase. Both suspects, a man and a woman, were killed in the ensuring shoot out with police. It is unclear whether Farouk was the man killed in that shoot out or still at large.
According to NBC News, a man named Syed Farook is listing as working as an Inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. The massacre took place at a holiday party for employees of the Department of Public Health.

A law enforcement official has identified Syed Farook as one of the suspects in a mass shooting in Southern California.
The official, who was briefed on the case, was not authorized to speak to the media about the ongoing investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Police say two suspects — a man and a woman — were killed in a gunbattle with police after the shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino.
Police say another person who was spotted running near the gunbattle was detained but they have said it is unclear if that person had anything to do with the shooting.
The official did not provide more details.
