Steve Israel (D-NY) will not seek another term in Congress, Newsday is reporting.

The former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman will step down from Congress to write a second book.

“It is time for me to pursue new passions and develop new interests, mainly spend more time writing my second novel,” Israel said in a statement to Newsday.

Israel first won election in 2000 and is currently serving his eighth term.
