A local state attorney’s office in Florida has requested the voting records of Trump campaign CEO Steve Bannon, Miami-Dade elections officials confirmed to NBC News. The probe comes after Bannon, the former chairman of Breitbart News, was found in a Guardian report to be registered to vote in Florida at an address occupied by an empty house where Bannon did not live.

“I know that there is an investigation but I know very little about it,” Rosy Pastrana, executive assistant to the county’s election supervisor, told NBC News. “They requested voter records for him, which is why I know there is an investigation going on.”

Voter registrations fraud prosecutions are very rare, and Pastrana told NBC News, “There is nothing here that I see that he did wrong.” Bannon had not voted in Florida elections since registering there in 2014, the report noted.

The Miami-Dade state attorney’s office would not confirm or deny to NBC News that an investigation was underway, but spokesman Ed Griffith suggested that an investigation could be prompted by a range of questions — including media inquiries — beyond just a possible voter registration violation.

“As a prosecutorial agency, we investigate all potential crimes brought to our attention,” Griffith said. “If it was brought to our attention we would certainly review any potential crime to see if it is indeed a crime or an administrative violation.”

Neither Bannon nor the Trump campaign provided comment to NBC News.

  1. As Josh has referenced elsewhere, likely more interesting to authorities is whether Bannon was creating a Florida residence profile to avoid state income tax on his earnings.

    Marching orders from Drumpf Tower.

  3. Like the chef who tastes her sauce to see if it needs more seasoning, you can’t really understand voter fraud until you commit it yourself.

Whenever I see a pic of Bannon, I can’t help thinking that he’d look more natural in a wife-beater undershirt…

I think this is missing the boat. Having documents showing Florida residence could be useful. The states where he worked should be looking at his taxes.

  5. Two Observations:
Bannon has the mug of a world class juicer!
