Donald Trump’s new campaign CEO, Breitbart News executive Steve Bannon, is registered to vote in Florida, but the address he lists in the state is an unoccupied home, The Guardian reported Friday.
Bannon rented the home in Miami-Dade county for his ex-wife, Diane Clohesy, but Bannon does not live there and Clohesy moved out of the house earlier in the year, according to The Guardian.
Because Bannon does not appear to live in the home he lists on his voter registration documents, the Guardian reported, he is “in apparent breach” of state election laws. “Under Florida law, voters must be legal residents of the state and of the county where they register to vote,” the paper reported. The state defines legal residency as the home “where a person mentally intends to make his or her permanent residence.”
Neighbors told The Guardian that the house has been empty for a few months. And the home is set to be knocked down soon to make way for a new development, according to the owner of the house, Luis Guevara.
“I have emptied the property,” Guevara told The Guardian. “Nobody lives there … we are going to make a construction there.”
Bannon previously rented a different property in Florida for Clohesy and had also listed that home on his voter registration form, but he did not live there either, according to The Guardian.
Records show that Bannon is a resident in California and was registered to vote there until 2014, and he also sometimes resides at a townhouse in Washington, D.C., which also serves as the headquarters for Breitbart News, according to The Guardian.
Bannon, Clohesy and Trump’s campaign declined to answer questions from The Gurdian about the home and Bannon’s voter registration. The Trump campaign offered a short statement through spokesman Jason Miller.
“Mr Bannon moved to another location in Florida,” Miller wrote in an email.
