Ohio Board of Education President Debe Terhar has said she wasn’t comparing President Obama’s gun control proposals to Nazi Germany when she posted on Facebook a photo of Adolf Hitler with the quote, “Never forget what this tyrant said: ‘To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens.'”

“I’m not comparing the president to Adolf Hitler,” Terhar said of her recent post, according to the Columbus Dispatch. “It’s the thought of disarming citizens, and this has happened throughout history. What’s the true intention of the Second Amendment? It was to protect us from a tyrannical government, God forbid.”

According to the report, Terhar, a Republican, was elected to the school board for a second term last week. She said she supports putting an armed guard in schools, but believes the decision should be left to local school boards.
