The State Department on Thursday called the upcoming visit of Google’s executive chairman to North Korea “unhelpful,” according to the Associated Press. Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt plans to visit North Korea as early as next month, accompanied by former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland says the timing of the visit by Eric Schmidt and former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is, quote, “unhelpful.”
Nuland said Schmidt and Richardson were “well aware” of the U.S. government’s views. She said they would be traveling as private citizens and carrying no messages from Washington.
