LATE UPDATE 5:33 p.m: Authorities said Wednesday evening that the suspected shooter killed his father at his home before going to Townville Elementary School and opening fire with a handgun.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Two children and one adult were injured in a shooting Wednesday afternoon at an elementary school in Townville, South Carolina, Anderson County deputies told local TV station WHNS.
Deputies took a teenage suspect into custody, who they believe acted alone. In a news conference Wednesday evening, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore confirmed that a relative of that suspect was found dead
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office told the Greenville News that the two students were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The coroner’s office also told local station WYFF that officials are investigating the death of a man found at a home about three miles from the school, which they say has a “direct connection” to the shooting.
Anderson County EMS Director Scott Stoller told CNN earlier that at least two children were shot and one was “life-flighted to Greenville Trauma Center.”
Emergency crews surrounded the school building, which was evacuated, and Highway 24 was shut down to facilitate the response from law enforcement, according to the report.
