A top Republican Party official said Thursday that Sen. Ted Cruz’s refusal to endorse Donald Trump is as good as a vote for the Democrats.

“At some point Ted Cruz has made it very clear that he’s siding with Hillary Clinton. That’s the choice. It’s a binary decision. You either support the nominee, the will of the voters, or support Hillary Clinton,” RNC spokesman Sean Spicer said in a CNN interview.

When CNN’s Kate Bolduan challenged Spicer that Cruz doesn’t really back the presumptive Democratic nominee, Spicer insisted Cruz’s actions amount to de facto sabotage.

“You have two choices on that ballot. Either you’re supporting the Republican nominee or you’re supporting Hillary Clinton,” he insisted.

Spicer also said he agreed with Gov. Chris Christie’s assessment that Cruz’s RNC speech was “selfish” and that he violated the RNC’s pledge to back the eventual party nominee even after a divisive primary.

Asked about what Cruz’s stand could mean for his political future, Spicer said die-hard Cruz supporters he spoke with after the speech thought it was “disgraceful.”
